Previously thought to be the same as C. scurrilis, this form was raised to taxon level last year and named C. bangkaensis, after one of the Indonesian islands of the coast of Sumarta which it can be found. Roland got this from Kai Witte (as C. scurrilis) sometime back and upon which, got the IDs mixed up. We were both bewildered when we saw the open spathe earlier this month. Nothing we had seen before. A quick posting on APC and a look at the identification keys from the description paper in AquaPlanta revealed a pleasant surprise.

How small the spathe actually is

  1. Really Nice pictures you re posting. I am really fascinated with you blog. You have just getting your better reader.

About bangkaensis, I am having really serious problem to keep them alive. Please, can you tell us something about you are keeping them??

  2. Hi Xema,
Welcome to my blog! I’m equally if not even more fascinated by yours. :)

The specimen of C. bangkaensis is not mine but Roland (lorba)’s. So I’m afraid I can’t say much about its maintenance. His specimen came from Kai, from which I presume yours also originated? From what I saw, Roland kept it in a mix of ADA. How’s yours being cultivated?

  3. Yeah, mine comes from Kai too. I got it labeled as scurrilis. And few month ago I got the bangka giant strain. This the last picture of the bangkaensis.

Few month ago it started to lose its leaves. I moved it to a more neutral set up, and they seem they are recovering slowly.
